In the ecstasy of Spring morning this week ; came the Tiger ( it’s puppy name!)visited the classes and met her master, a UKG student while she was preparing to attend the assembly and returned happily back to home after getting love and affection of school children, teachers and staff.

Again came, two golden kittens when the assembly was on. They played, danced, mewed between the row of school children in the school field and when the drum set started beating. They felt scared and rushed to their homes. The children looked back and smiled.

It’s not first school. Most of the schools of the northeastern states — Assam, Arunachal Pradesh,Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Tripura and Sikkim are animal and nature friendly.

Talking to Our India in the school office, Ajay Kumar Pandey, the principal of the school namely New Era English Academy, said, ” The little ones, cats, puppies, birds always amuse children. Kittens turned school kids this week in our school! Our school follows animal friendly as well as Eco friendly campus policy. No one is allowed to hunt or harm wild animals in the campus. “

“We conduct educational and awareness programme time to time on how to be animal – friendly by delivering lectures, discussing one to one about various issues related to animals in the morning assembly. Topics mainly covered ” preventing animal cruelty in the society “, ” compassion towards animals,” adoption of local cats and dogs “.

The people of all sections appreciate such act of schools. Devajit Moran, the secretary of the green bird society, a man who has been working since long to save nature and animals in northeast, said, “As students are the change agents to build a better coexistence for animals. Taking a new vision in mind with a mission to create an animal – friendly northeast and Eco – friendly northeast we should go among them and conduct educational programme. “

Ranjeeta Nayak, a graduating student at Bir Raghab Moran government Model College, a pet – lover said, ” Animals are never less important than human beings. We should treat them decently. “

Most of the schools in the northeast have been using eco – friendly canvas or other non- leather footwear as uniforms. This measure is not only protecting animals and the environment but also empowering children with the opportunities to be animal and eco-friendly consumers.
