Assam: Thousands attends at AGP party workers' meet in Dibrugarh

GUWAHATI: Ahead of upcoming Panchayat election and Lok Sabha elections, Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) on Monday organised a party workers’ meet in Dibrugarh.

Over thousand of AGP workers participated in the convention held at District library in Dibrugarh.

The convention was held to chalk out strategies for the upcoming elections in Assam. AGP president Atul Bora, senior AGP leader and health minister Keshab Mahanta and senior AGP leader and Bongaigaon MLA Phani Bhushan Choudhury participated in the meeting.

AGP vice president, Sunil Rajkonwar said, “Large numbers of people participated in the meeting. We held a fruitful meeting and hopeful about our party’s future. Our party’s main objective is to strengthen regionalism,”.

Meanwhile, AGP has decided to field their candidates from Dibrugarh constituency in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

“People from seven constituency of Assam have participated in the meeting to strengthen regionalism. We have got a good response from the people and hopeful about its future. In the upcoming Panchayat election, how our party will go from here was one of the key points of today’s meeting. We advocate regionalism and our party in alliance with BJP has been doing a good work under the leadership of CM Himanta Biswa Sarma,” said Chabua MLA  Punakon Baruah.

Talking to reporters, AGP president Atul Bora said, “We are happy to see the response of people towards our party. We are a regional force and has been advocating about the regionalism in Assam. Today, we have discussed several important things how we would go for the upcoming polls. For the panchayat polls, we have different strategies. Within two months we will create Vote committees and strategies how to move forward,”.

“We are running a successful government in alliance with BJP. Under the CM Himanta Biswa Sarma lots of developmental work has happened. The people are getting schemes. We are hopeful that our party will perform better in the upcoming elections,” Bora said.
