GUWAHATI: The Union Minister of Chemicals and Fertilizers, Dr Mansukh Mandviya will soon visit BVFCL at Namrup, Union minister Sarbananda Sonowal said .
Brahmaputra Valley Fertilizer Corporation Limited ( BVFCL ) is the pioneer in India in the production of Urea from natural gas and the unit started production in 1969 which was in news claiming to be shut down.
The Company was formed in April 2002 after hiving off the Namrup unit of Hindustan Fertilizer Corporation Limited.
It is the only urea manufacturing company in the whole of northeastern and eastern part of India.
However, according to reports, BVFCL will not be closed down and the government of India will pump in funds to modernize the plant , Union Minister of Ports ,Shipping and Waterways , Sarbananda Sonowal said .
Sonowal said that he had detailed talks with the Union Minister of Chemicals and Fertilizers, Dr Mansukh Mandviya after reports of closer of the fertilizer unit came up in the media. He said that during the talks, Mandviya assured him that the fertilizer company would not be closed down.
Mandviya assured Sonowal that the Centre would invest funds for the modernization of the unit. The government is planning to set up a nano fertilizer unit in Namrup.
Mandviya told Sonowal that he would visit Namrup soon to assess the situation on the ground and he would make a formal announcement to modernize the plant and to set up the Nano Fertilizer Plant .
Remarkably, the Company has played a crucial role in the development of the Northeast region and in making urea available to the local farmers which is produced from cheap and locally available domestic natural gas.
